Steve and Amy Russ were excited to become parents for the second time. They already had a beautiful daughter and baby No. 2 was on the way.
At 30 weeks, Amy Russ noticed the baby stopped moving almost overnight.
The drastic change made her schedule an appointment immediately with her primary care physician. After several tests, the doctors confirmed the baby was in severe distress and needed to be delivered immediately via emergency C section.
Bohdy Brandon arrived 10 weeks early weighing in at 2 pounds 6 ounces.
His lungs were severely underdeveloped and he was given a lifesaving surfactant treatment to help him breathe. The medical advancement was made possible by the March of Dimes and has since saved thousands of babies born too small and too soon.
Bohdy spent more than eight weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Poudre Valley Hospital. Amy and Steve Russ made the hospital their home and welcomed the doctors and nurses into their lives.
On Dec. 5, 2009, almost two weeks before his original due date the Russes took Bohdy home.
He is now a vibrant 2-year-old, and the Russ family is dedicated to making sure other families have the same happy ending.
On April 28, the Russ family will lead the March of Dimes March for Babies event at Edora Park in Fort Collins. They will be joined by more than 100 corporate and family teams that have raised money to support the March of Dimes ' mission to improve the health of all babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
The event is presented in 2012 by Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies.
