Roker was introducing the segment, which was supposed to display the valuable bowls for the cameras and the audience to see. But stagehand Joe Tersi, who last week got hit in the chest by a flying wine bottle thrown by Kathie Lee Gifford, stepped in front of them to get a better look, blocking the camera's view with the back of his head. As a stage manager moved Tersi out of the way, Al Roker shouted "That's live TV, baby!"
Roker then turned a quick camera snafu into a verbal gaffe. Matt Lauer asked for a weather update (remember when that was Roker's job?) before Journey took the stage, but Roker wanted to talk about Tersi. "I'd like to see another shot of the back of Joe Tersi's head," he said. "That is fantastic. You should see him full frontal. Unbelievable!"
When Ann Curry covered her mouth in surprise, Roker added, "I mean from the face!" Tersi covered his face, shaking his head in dismay, and they moved on to the weather.
